Our meetings are held at [Yacht Club name] — [yacht club address — at [time] on the 1st and 3rd Thursday of every month.
In 2006 we're trying out a new meeting schedule that we hope will give you more opportunity to get to know your fellow sailers and guests.
This is our new meeting schedule starting January 2006. We'll work out the timing in the next few meetings, but here's the idea.
Official meeting start time. It's ok to arrive earlier or later but best for new-comers arrive by 7:15.
Everyone signs in at the volunteer-run front desk. The meeting donation is $7 in cash, paid at this time. We ask for your phone number (just in case we need to reach you about a sailing trip) and you email address (so we can add you to our email list). We also give newcomers a waiver to sign. You also receive a name badge so we know you're part of our group. (Red if you're new, blue if you've attended before.)
• Old-timers mingle until the meeting.
• New-comers join the orientation shortly after arrival.
Boat sign up no longer happens at this time.
Newcomer orientation with Fleet Captain - on the couches by the door and registration desk. This gives new-comers the lowdown on the club.
Formal meeting led by an officer. During this time we ask potential skippers to offer their boats for the following sail. We introduce skippers and new members. This gives you a chance to know something about each other and about the boats.
From time to time we'll have a something for you to learn about boating thanks to guesst instructors from the Coast Guard or such. On these dates we'll adjust the times, perhaps getting our dinner and returning to the back room.
Boat sign up & dinner
We put our a sign-up sheet on a clipboard for each boat that is available. If you'd like to sail you put your name and number down.
Food is served
Everyone lines up, takes a plate and is served the hot food, then follows around to the self-help salad, (sometimes) dessert, and condiment counter. Then we take our plates to the back area or front of the club and sit down to a meal. (While we usually have a nice meal, this is all volunteer so we don't promise it will always be a full dinner.)
As we eat we contine our meeting topic or just chat.
Everyone is encouraged to stay and dance, play games, etc.
(If you have a good party mix CD you're willing to share so we can dance, please bring it.)
We meet at [Yacht Club] as guests of the club, with the understanding that we'll clean up after ourselves. When we're done eating we throw out our plates in the kitchen. We also return our chairs to the chair stacks.
For each meeting a member volunteers to take care of dinner. This can be as simple as picking up frozen raviolli and some sauce at Costco or Smart and Final, then cooking it at the club, or if you're a bit crazy you're welcome to cook a meal. We reimburse you for your costs.
You can park about half way down [street] in the lot on the left where there's a boating shop, then walk along the water to [Yacht Club]. There are no signs prohibiting parking on the street but cars are being ticketed there. (For weekend events, there's a valet on the right at the very end of the road so you can park for just a tip.)
Want to see what [Yacht Club] and our meetings are like? We've got a page full of photos to share with you. They were taken in dark rooms with not-great cameras, but they'll give you an idea.
