Surprises can be fun but we figure it's better for you to have an idea of what to expect the day that you join our singles sailing club to come out sailing or motoring with us.
Breakfast • Getting to your boat • Boating decorum • After party
On boating day, whether Saturday or Sunday, we meet for breakfast at the Marina del Rey Hotel, 13534 Bali Way at 9:30. Walk down the hotel's main hall, past the desk into the restaurant. We're always on the left, whether inside or outside on the grass as shown below.
We typically hang out there until around 11. You don't have to arrive at 9:30 sharp but if you're not there by 10:15 we may give your spot away.
The time at which we depart for our respective boats depends on the weather conditions.
Please... if you're not able to make it on the day of the sail, call your skipper or another attending member to let us know. That way we can accommodate other folks who weren't able to sign up to come out boating at the meeting.
We each pay for our own meal. Bring cash to cover your order, tax, and a tip.
There's an $11 breakfast buffet that includes the standard fare — or you can order from the a la carte menu. On Sunday the buffet includes a build-your-own omelette where the chef cooks 'em up right there for you, with your mixings of choice. (And yes, you can go back for more.) On Sunday the buffet is $13.
Everyone who comes out boating with us chips in $3 to buy breakfast for our boat skippers.
(Saturday buffet total is $11.90 with tax, 15% tip is $1.70, skipper $3 = $16.60. Sunday would be 14+1.90+3 = $18.90)
We drive ourselves to our respective boats. You can follow someone who knows the way, or sometimes skippers print directions. There is often free parking but bring coins, Mastercard, or Visa in case you need to use a public lot. ($3 per day, except $6 Memorial Day through Labor Day.) This printable map at MarinadelRey.com will help you become familiar with the area. Here is some info about parking lots.
We ask that you follow a few simple rules while on a skipper's boat.
If you're wondering what to wear, you'll learn or can ask at the meeting, but you can also check out our FAQs.
Around 4-5 pm, depending on the season, we head back and get together at a pre-determined location for an after-sail party. If you haven't consumed all the food, wine and snacks you brought, this is when you break it out and share with all who participated in the sail.
